Yes, and I've helped code for platforms no longer supported by their 
suppliers when the need is there - notably old MS-Windows and old 
Android, though I rely on other volunteers to do most of the real work 
as I use neither platform (and even suggest that other users avoid them 
too).

But when a relatively obscure platform like an old IBM AIX compiler is 
so unpopular that it's hard even to assess its popularity, the removal 
of vendor support is a strong, strong signal that it's dead, Jim. We 
should not waste our valuable volunteer time maintaining museums of 
obsolete software.

Of course you're free to ignore my advice - even if it's good advice.
