I'm glad to see both VMs crashed within 2 hours after I sent that email.
:)

Update: cfarm431 (hurd-amd64) now has 16GB RAM. It can't boot with 18GB
RAM and it couldn't boot with 8GB RAM a few months ago.
cfarm432 (hurd-i386) now can utilize all the disk space (500GB) I
allocated to /home, thanks to the guidance of a debian developer on
debian-hurd mailing list. Also, the newest kernel now can boot with SMP
enabled, with a downside of only recognizing 2GB RAM. So cfarm432 now
can use 4 cores and 2GB RAM. cfarm431 doesn't boot with the SMP amd64
kernel.

Additional info: I wrote a simple "external watchdog" script on the
hypervisor: it tries to ssh into cfarm{431,432} and run /bin/true, if it
fails, hard reset the VM. The script is run by cron every hour at *:15.
This should be able to detect crashes, but not accounting for the
situation where everything else is fine but only sshd crashes (which may
be corrected simply by restarting sshd).

Cheers,
